Description:
Abstract:
This raster dataset depicts estimated groundwater recharge, expressed in inches per year, for Dane County, Wisconsion. The data were calculated for a typical climate year (1981) and 2005 land-use patterns using a soil-water balance (SWB) model. Please see the accompanying report for detailed description of the SWB model theory, application of model results, and comparison to other methods of recharge estimation. This dataset was not initially included in the overall publication, but was subsequently released 9/29/2023. The data appear in Figure 5, page 6, of the accompanying report.
Purpose:
This dataset of groundwater recharge provides information pertinent to groundwater resources in Dane County, Wisconsin. An understanding of the spatial variability of recharge is important when making groundwater management and land-use decisions.
Supplemental_Information:
Please see the accompanying report for detailed description of the SWB model theory, application of model results, and comparison to other methods of recharge estimation.

Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Raster cell values indicate groundwater recharge in inches per year. These values were reclassified from output of the SWB model. No formal checks, such as comparison of specific raster attributes to model inputs and calculations, were completed. However, the general distribution of relative recharge potential is consistent with regional soil characteristics and land use/cover data.
Completeness_Report:
Areas of extractive land use, wetlands, and surface water, as reported by the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission in the 2005 digital land use inventory dataset, were removed from the final raster dataset. These areas are problematic to accurately represent in the SWB model.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
Horizontal accuracy of these data depend upon the the horizontal accuracy of the SWB model input datasets.
