In accordance with guidelines from the Division of Extension and UW–Madison, WGNHS has reopened its offices to our employees and the public as of July 6, 2021.
Throughout the long closure, our staff has been working remotely, conducting fieldwork, and continuing to do research on Wisconsin’s geology and groundwater in support of the Survey’s mission. To learn about our activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, take a look at our 2020 Year in Review and our Projects story map.
Our main office on Mineral Point Rd. in Madison is open 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, Monday–Friday, and our core repository in Mount Horeb is open by appointment. As we transition back to working at our office, please contact the staff member you wish to speak with ahead of time to be sure they are available.
If you plan to visit, we request that you please wear a face covering if you are not yet vaccinated against COVID-19. Please stay home if you feel ill or have had close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
Before you visit our offices in person, we encourage you to check out the many online resources on our website, which is a great source of maps and information on Wisconsin geology, groundwater, and minerals. (Just a reminder, we no longer distribute print copies of our publications.) If you have a question about a specific topic, please see our Experts page. If you have other questions or concerns, please email us at info@wgnhs.wisc.edu. Our social media accounts (particularly Facebook and Twitter) are also a good way to stay informed about our activities.
